The Nightjet locomotive 1216 012 is now the second Taurus locomotive in this design, alongside the ÖBB 1116 195. A striking feature of the 1216 is the red stripe on both ends, required for approval in Italy.
With the timetable change in December 2016, the ÖBB launched its Europe-wide night train service under the brand name Nightjet. Since December 2017, Nightjet (NJ) has also been a train type. The redesign of the carriages was achieved using adhesive films. The striking design is in midnight blue designed with a suggested starry sky.
