The Zulu was an innovative cross, combining the extreme cant of the 'Scaffie's' sternpost with the almost straight stem of the 'Fifie'. This created a unique and highly successful class of fore- and aft-rigged fishing vessels during the final decades of herring fishing.
The kit has been extensively researched with the help of an expert in this vessel type and designed to show the vessel as it probably appeared during the heyday of the herring fishery off the east coast of Scotland. It is an authentic model with details such as the steam-powered winch, fish hatches and companionway, steering system, and complete rigging.
