The Nordic is arguably the most powerful German ocean-going salvage tug. It is stationed at a sea position near Heligoland as part of the German Emergency Towing Concept. The construction and commissioning of the Nordic are one of the consequences of the Pallas accident in 1998. The German North Sea Protection Association (SDN), along with many other nature conservation organizations, has campaigned for a new emergency tug since then.
Original drawings from the shipyard were used to develop the Nordic kit. The model is accurately reproduced in 1:72 scale. The kit is constructed of plywood with a keel and frames and abachi planking. The superstructure is made with complete interior fittings made of laser-cut wooden parts and details 3D-printed in resin.
